Nature Based Activities

We offer a vibrant programme of nature-based activities tailored for schools and community groups, designed to spark curiosity and deepen connections with the local environment. From guided nature walks and immersive BioBlitz events to engaging assemblies and hands-on workshops, we create opportunities for young people to explore biodiversity and learn about sustainability in fun, accessible ways. We also support uniformed groups such as Scouts and Guides in completing interest badges by aligning our activities with badge criteria—whether it’s wildlife identification, conservation action, or outdoor skills. Every session is crafted for the group to be inclusive, educational, and inspiring, helping this and the next generation become confident stewards of their green spaces.

Great Big Green Week & Great Little Green Week
Great Big Green Week is the UK’s largest celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature, organised annually by The Climate Coalition around mid-June.
In Derby, we embrace this spirit with Derby West Great Big Green Week where we also focus on spending time outdoors, away from screens, offering a range of activities that encourage exploration of our green spaces and joyful connection with nature.

In 2026 — we are also launching Derby West Great Little Green Week a new, locally rooted celebration held during May half term with family focused events.

Derby City Council Green Rewards App
We are proud to champion the Derby City Council Green Rewards app, a brilliant tool that encourages residents to make sustainable choices through fun, everyday actions. We actively promote the scheme at community events, school visits, and through our digital platforms—helping people discover how small changes, like recycling more or walking instead of driving, can earn points and unlock rewards.
